Get to Know FIT

We create partnerships with our families to bring health and wellness to the forefront of daily living. We believe that teaching an entire family how to eat, move, and live differently will lead to changes in lifestyle habits that last a lifetime. Having the whole family work together in the pursuit of family wellness reduces health risks for each member of that family and creates an environment for sustaining newly adopted habits. Our intentional work with each family focuses on strengths and needs to ensure alignment with each family’s lifestyle to achieve the greatest success.

What inspired you to get involved with The FIT Project?
People want to live healthy lives, they just need to know how. They need someone to care. It seemed obvious to me that knowledge and behavior modification is what will make the most difference in the lives of people.

What’s your biggest challenge with keeping your own family and healthy?
Bringing everyone together to get outside, get moving and be active is like pulling teeth. But when it’s all done I always hear, “That was better than I thought it would be…”

How do you feel lifestyle influences health and wellness?
Personally, I think lifestyle is everything. It is the structure that supports activity, wellness and nutrition. Making a schedule that fits the needs of health first should be the priority, then everything else can fall around it.

What have you found rewarding about working with FIT?
The community support. Working with my friends. Watching people grow in confidence and take control of their life. Introducing little kids to a parsnip; and having some like it. This is my passion, my heart; and I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to play in this arena.

What inspired you to get involved with The FIT Project?
I’ve always known I wanted to be more socially conscious. It was just a matter of finding a cause that spoke and resonated with me.

What is your biggest challenge with keeping your own family and healthy?
The biggest challenges I have is time and being creative making a balance meal for my two active kids.

How do you feel lifestyle influences health and wellness?
Behavioral and lifestyle factors have been implicated in poor health quality and the development of chronic diseases. Specifically with poor diet and physical inactivity.

What have you found most rewarding about working with FIT?
Working with an Organization that shares my values and beliefs. There’s no greater personal joy and reward than to help others help themselves.

What inspired you to get involved with The FIT Project?
I am educated in fitness and nutrition, and have worked in the health and human services field for most of my career. The FIT Project combines my passions, and inspires me to follow my dreams.

What is your biggest challenge with keeping your own family healthy?
Time. My husband and I work full time, I have a son in college, and another in high school, and we’re often eating on the run. I have tried to arm them with information, in hopes that they will continue to make informed, healthy choices.

How do you feel lifestyle influences health and wellness?
Our lifestyle choices, the work we do, the foods we eat, the activities we choose, and the people we surround ourselves with, all influence our health and wellness, and vice versa. I believe that our lifestyle is also greatly influenced by others, and how we were raised.

What have you found rewarding about working with FIT?
I had a dream of starting a non-profit organization, with a vision and mission that is in alignment with that of The FIT Project. I was thrilled to find out it already existed, and was doing such great work!

What inspired you to get involved with The FIT Project?
The mission that Marni is on to help people address their fitness and lifestyle challenges is a powerful one and something I personally deal with on a daily basis. The education and training that the FIT Project provides families and children is so powerful and Marni is truly help to shape future generations and how their lifestyle impacts their health.

What is your biggest challenge with keeping your own family and healthy?
With two young kids and a full time job (outside the home), time is my biggest challenge. But we work hard to make fitness and wellness a daily part of our family lives – from meal planning to incorporating active time every day!

How do you feel lifestyle influences health and wellness?
I’m working hard to instill health and wellness into my two young girls’ daily lives and make it part of our family fiber – even if some days it’s a simple conversation about what is healthier – broccoli or ice cream – and why you want to choose more of the healthy option (in addition to also enjoying a bit of ice cream!)

What have you found rewarding about working with FIT?
Seeing the growth of FIT and how health organizations are buying into the idea that lifestyle training can positively impact their bottom line is so refreshing.

What inspired you to get involved with FIT?
I am driven to work with people who want to live a healthier lifestyle. I’ve struggled in the past with finding my own values around health, so I identify with people who are trying to create a healthier lifestyle that fits within THEIR life. The FIT Project creates a safe community for families to explore what works for them as they create and pursue their own visions of family wellness. It is the perfect place for me to be involved!

What is your biggest challenge with keeping your own family healthy?
Our lives are inundated with all kinds of health advice, images, fad diets, and recommendations for living healthy. It’s overwhelming to weed out what is real and what really works. Moreover, raising my children in a world where health conscious living is not at the forefront is HARD! It’s a ongoing battle to find balance at home and in the community while maintaining the habits we know keep us healthy.

How do you feel lifestyle influences Health and Wellness?
Every choice we make has an opportunity for a healthy choice. Whether it’s taking a walk rather than burning thirty minutes on social media, choosing a healthy snack, or choosing how we will respond to a stressful situation, we have to be our own best advocates for healthy choices.

What have you found most rewarding about working with FIT?
It is amazing to work with each and every one of our FIT families. From their very first workout to creating family visions of wellness to watching as each family takes on new challenges in their pursuit of healthy living, each encounter I have with our families is rewarding and energizing!
